Customs guarantees,
structured and approved.

We guide your team through the customs guarantee application, from requirements to bank coordination to final approval, so you reach the finish line without surprises.

In context

What it is, where it applies, how we help

What it is

A customs guarantee (Zollbürgschaft) is the financial security you put in place under the Union Customs Code so that duties, import VAT and excise stay covered while your goods are moving, stored under a special procedure or deferred for payment. It can be a comprehensive guarantee covering several procedures, or an individual guarantee per operation, and it is the prerequisite for most of the simplifications customs authorities expect from a serious importer or exporter.

Where it applies

You need an approved guarantee whenever duty becomes potentially payable but is not paid immediately: deferred duty accounts, customs warehouses, inward and outward processing, temporary admission, transit and most AEO-related simplifications all rely on one. The guarantee is registered with the competent customs office in your Member State and linked to your EORI number, which is why a clean setup pays off across every authorisation that follows.

How we work on it

We start with a short gap analysis of your trade flows, existing authorisations and bank relationship to size the right guarantee type and amount. From there we build the application package, prepare the dialogue with your bank and the customs office in a single coordinated thread, and review every document before submission. You stay the formal applicant; we make sure the file lands clean the first time, so you reach approval in weeks rather than running into months of follow-up questions.

Common challenges

Why customs guarantees stall

Most companies do this once or twice, customs and banks do it every day. The gap shows up as delays.

Unclear which documents customs and the bank actually need

Legal requirements that change with your authorisation type

Aligning bank, customs and finance feels like herding cats

No visibility on how long the process really takes

Risk of follow-up questions that reset the clock

Internal time lost researching instead of operating

FAQ

Customs guarantee questions, answered

We guide and review the application end to end, but the formal applicant remains your company. This keeps you in control of the relationship with customs and your bank, while you get expert support on every document and decision.

Lead time depends on your authorisation type, the bank and the local customs office. With a complete document package and clean coordination, most cases move noticeably faster than companies handling them alone for the first time.
